Welcome!
Intuitivekitchenbylizzy is my new blog dedicated to encouraging home cooking. Everyone who eats should cook! Of course if you are a baby, you are not reading this blog, so my philosophy does not refer to you. But for everyone else, get ready for tips, tricks and techniques. Let's get cooking!
Perhaps you should know a bit about me. My first real kitchen experience started in a restaurant kitchen! I was about 12 years old when my parents opened a restaurant in the tiny town of Woodbine, NJ. My grandmother and I were in the back kitchen, while my dad grilled steaks and burgers out front. Mom took care of the counter and register...Gran made soups, fries, puddings...I weighed balls of hamburger, slamming them between the pages of a wooden press to form the hamburgers. I did tons (or so it seemed) of dishes. (our press was square). And according to my folks, I tried to quit every five minutes.

When the Colorado Cafe closed (that was the name), I found work every summer in the beach towns around our home. During college, I worked at a local golf club/ catering place, helping to produce meals for weddings, and other large crowds. It was the era of green beans almondene and chicken cordon bleu. I learned how to follow a recipe, kitchen safety, and how to work 12 hour days.
My early married life didn't contain much in the way of cooking, because we hardly had enough money to eat. As we began to get better jobs, I got better as a cook. I cooked in other restaurants. I learned how to can jams and jellys and pickles. I made bread, and grew a garden. And I watched cooks on television....WAY before "Julie and Julia,"I adored Julia Child.
There is more to the story, but this is enough for now!
